Harvard is a sneaky, slippery seducer indeed.
In the course of 24 hours I have flipped 180 degrees from utter lack of interest to minor infatuation, by mere virtue of their paying attention to me. And I haven't even set foot on campus yet.
The plot thickens.

Have I been kidding myself the whole time?

Oh please.
Arguments like this really annoy me. I'm to lazy to explain why; if you don't see it, take a look at some of the comments.

Art > Ethics
Oh, Daily Themes. Today, Coffee and Tea are having a dialogue. ^_^ I imagine Coffee as something of an acerbic, overdramatic starving artist ("I have measured out my life in coffee spoons,") and Tea as quite like Obi-Wan Kenobi: British nobility meets Zen monk. Writing is fun.
I shopped the two Ethics classes today. They were alright, but Art History is better. I love discussing ethics, but I don't really feel like reading about it. By contrast, my AH prof said, "this is a class about looking." Well, what do you know. My favorite pastime! And Japanese art is just so cool, and I'm not talking about manga (though geeky me does see touches of stylistic continuity). So much of it is very Zen, very nature-based, sparsely elegant and rustically graceful. And yet it is rife with whimsy. It is also really cool because it influenced French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. The hardest thing will be memorizing the names and the time periods and all that. But if I have the option of taking it Credit/D, there's nothing to fear. It meets again tomorrow and I'm already excited.
Friday is Origins of Andean Complex Societies and probably the resumption of my work in the lab. The senior essay is due so early. It's insane. But it will be a good thing for my other classes.
By the way, it is FREEZING. The gross mystery liquid made icicles on my window today.

One last shopping spree!
This is the writing class I'm taking. Scroll down the article titled "Variations on a Theme."
As my tutor said, "anxiety will become your friend."
The Berkeley conference inspired me, and I'm excited about archaeology again. If you're reading this, I've probably already told you that. Why do I bother? I don't know. It's for the record, so the total strangers who stumble across this don't say, "Hm, that girl was pretty angsty and ungrateful." ^_^
The ice storm is heading our way. The gross mystery liquid is cascading from the window above me. I'm shopping for classes, on the lookout for something refreshing to compliment my project, Daily Themes, and Origins of Andean Complex Societies (aka Richard's Chavin book). I looked at World Religions and Ecology (disappointing) and Survey of Japanese Art (very promising!). Tomorrow I'm checking out Environmental Ethics and Ethics and Emotions. I'll probably end up taking Art History because it's awesome, and I really don't know if I'm in the mood for something heavy like ethics, but I've always wanted to do it. Either way, I may take my last course Credit/D to lighten the psychological burden of DT (which, annoyingly, I can't take Cr/D). Our prof basically said he's against straight A's, and a friend said my tutor is one of the harder ones, but I'm not in it for the grade. I'm in it to overcome my horribly slow writing and to get in touch with that part of my brain I've been neglecting, which has caused me so much "misery."

Happy New Year!
Things I will remember about 2006:
- The Democratic victory in the midterm elections
- Cuzco, Machu Picchu, and Proyecto Huari-Ancash
- Getting a tattoo
- Turning 21
- Moving into Davenport, finally
- The first snow on the rooftop of 109 Howe after pulling an all-nighter with Kate
- Beating Harvard in The Game at last, even though I wasn't there
- Applying to grad schools
- Harvey Weiss' words of wisdom
- Acing the GRE
- Planning the Northeast Climate Conference
- The discovery of Olmec writing
- Steven Colbert's speech at the White House Correspondents Association dinner
- Jon Stewart at the Oscars
- Hearing, in one weekend, live performances by YSO doing Beethoven's 9th, and by Gunther
- Re-opening myself to the possibility of love
- Learning to love taking care of my nails
- The downfall of Tom Delay, Donald Rumsfeld, Jack Abramoff, and the Enron Crew
- Almost no actually cold weather, except in July (oh, Peru >_<)
- Watching my brother graduate from high school, get into Pomona, become an Eagle Scout, win prom king and the virtually universal adoration of the Peninsula, and just about making me sick to my -- I mean, the proudest big sister ever. <3
- Dick Cheney shot a guy in the face.
